Feet on the Floor: Small Wins and Morning Grace

Have you ever had a morning when you didn’t want to get out of bed? Not because you were sick—no, because it was so cozy and comfortable that you wanted to stay in that comfort for as long as possible?

That’s how my day started. I did not want to get out of bed. I woke up after a night of tossing and turning and was determined to stay in bed as long as possible. It was too good to leave.

The blankets formed a cocoon of warmth and comfort that I did not dare disturb. The pillows felt softer than I remembered, and the dim gray light that peeked in from the outside made my warm bed even more inviting.

I was groggy from the poor sleep and not at all interested in leaving my precious space. Then, I realized something: I cannot spend all day lying in bed. I had things to do. We had people coming over later that day for dinner.

How did I break free from the comfort of my cozy bed? I prayed. I set a timer for 30 minutes, asked God to let me enjoy that time to the fullest, and to give me the strength to move. That’s just what He did.

When the timer went off, I started by putting my feet on the floor. Then, I got out of bed and got dressed. As the grogginess clung to me, I made the bed, emptied a couple of small trash cans, and did a few dishes.

These completed tasks were the start of several small wins that compounded until I was finally in a groove. As my morning gave way to afternoon, I was in full swing and didn’t look back. The grogginess faded, and I was rolling.

So, if you ever feel like you can’t get out of bed, remember to pray, give yourself some grace, and start small. Do one thing, then another. These small wins will get you moving. And the more you move, the more you will want to keep going.

When’s the last time you asked God for strength in a small moment like getting out of bed—and He showed up? I’d love to hear your story.
