No Excuse Not to Write (Even With a Scratchy Throat)

No Excuse Not to Write (Even With a Scratchy Throat)

Not feeling well is no excuse for not writing. Today I woke up with that familiar feeling of a scratchy throat, hazy eyes, and heavy head. I’m sure this lovely northeast weather has something to do with it.

I spent most of today trying to rest. You would think that would be easy when you’re not feeling well, but it was more challenging than I thought. We’ve all been there, I’m sure—when you can’t get comfortable, want to sleep, but just flop around in bed.

Even feeling sick, I managed to get up and get some small chores done. I talked about them before, but those small wins can make a big difference. They really can lift your spirits even when you’ve got the latest bug going around.

I wrote about some of this already in my article, “Feet on the Floor: Small Wins and Morning Grace.” But repetition of good advice never goes out of style. When you’re sick, even more grace is necessary.

What would my mother say to me? Make sure to get lots of rest, stay hydrated, and eat even if you’re not hungry. Your body needs sleep and fuel to heal. Listen to what it says—it knows what it needs.

Sound words. That’s about all I have the energy to get out of my brain today. If this sounds a bit delusional, I’ll blame the pathogens that have decided to use me for their hotel.
