OK, so I was reading in Genesis today and I had a small revelation, God originally intended us (and all land mammals) to be vegetarians. Why do I say this? If you look at Genesis 1:29-30 God says:

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to** every fowl of the air**, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life,** I have given every green herb for meat**: and it was so.

Interesting…God specifically created plants for food, not other animals. Again, in Genesis 2:16 we see God referencing plants (in this case trees) as food:

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying,** Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat**:

As you can see, God commanded us to eat from trees. It isn’t until after the flood that God “ordains” the eating of animals, in Genesis 9:3:

3****Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

Now, I’m not sure what you do with that little tidbit but in reading this it seem perfectly obvious to me that God intended us to be vegetarians in the beginning. It didn’t end up that way in the end, however, maybe we are still hard-wired to be vegetarians…just a personal observation.
