Switching to Linux Mint: Breathing New Life Into My Laptop

Well, I finally decided on the next Linux distribution I’m going to try. If you’ve been following along, you know I’ve been having some issues with my current system. They’re more annoyances than deal-breakers, but there are enough of them to make a change worthwhile.

The distro I’m going with is Linux Mint. I’d come across it before, but what sold me was a comment on the article I wrote a couple of days ago. The person was dealing with some of the same frustrations I was, switched to Linux Mint, and has been happy ever since.

I’ve backed up all the data I want to keep to my cloud drive. Now I can download the installer, burn it to a USB stick, and run through the installation.

Installs tend to be event-free with Linux these days. The longest part is post-installation: adding back my preferred web browser, terminal, file manager, note-taking software, downloading my configurations, changing the theme, and installing any missing developer tools.

Being a Linux user is unlike any other computing experience—especially if you use it for its customizable nature. That’s what drew me to Linux in the first place and what keeps me coming back. I can make it look, feel, and act exactly the way that suits me best.

So, I’m off to the races. Time to breathe new life into this machine. This feels like a small step of faithfulness. I’ll see you on the other side with a full report of how it goes.

What’s one tech tweak or switch that’s ever given you a fresh start?
